Journalist

Nonimmigrant visas are available to the representatives of the foreign press, radio, etc. or other foreign information media coming to the U.S. solely to engage in their vocation.

The general requirement for this classification is that an alien must be conducting activities that are essential to the foreign information media organization. This could include activities conducted by media reporters, media film crews video tape editors and other persons in similar occupations.

Aliens engaged in film and video production will be eligible only if the film or video is of an informational or educational nature.

Employees of independent production companies involved in filming news or documentaries may be eligible if the following are met:

  1. Have credentials issued by a professional journalistic association
  2. The film will be used by a TV station or other news media
  3. The film may not be primarily used for commercial or advertising purposes

Freelance media workers with credentials issued by a professional journalistic organization are eligible for this visa if they have a valid employment contract with the foreign organization on a project that is not primarily intended for commercial, entertainment or advertisement use.
